Popular Gay Social App Blued Removed by Authorities in Wenzhou for Compliance Issues

The well-known gay social networking application Blued was recently removed from app stores following a notice issued by internet authorities in Wenzhou. According to the 2025 enforcement report released by Wenzhou authorities, the app was taken down for compliance violations. This action was carried out in accordance with the principle of territorial jurisdiction in internet regulation.

Under current regulatory practices, oversight of online platforms is determined by the location where violations occur or where users are concentrated, rather than solely by the company’s registered address. Although Blued’s parent company is based in Beijing, Wenzhou authorities were able to initiate the case based on local user reports and evidence of irregularities. Once jurisdiction is established, other regional authorities do not duplicate enforcement efforts.

The primary issues cited involved deficiencies in user data protection and safeguards for minors. In response, the platform promptly implemented corrective measures, including enhanced real-name verification requiring phone number binding and facial recognition for high-risk operations, as well as upgraded content moderation systems that classify and handle violations at different levels—screening minor infractions and suspending accounts for serious breaches.

This case is not isolated. In recent years, multiple social applications have faced similar enforcement actions, indicating a broader regulatory push to strengthen platform accountability. For gay social platforms, compliance is no longer optional but essential for survival and sustainable development. Effective rectification helps reduce risks, build user trust, and promote a healthier industry environment.
